Report: Former Texas A&M star Robert Williams suffers major injury
Former Texas A&M star and starting center for the Boston Celtics Robert Williams will miss at least several weeks after suffering a torn meniscus, according to The Athletic‘s Shams Charania. The former first-round draft pick is averaging a career-high 10 points and 9.6 rebounds for the Celtics this season.
Boston is sitting on top of the Atlantic Division standings with a 47-28 record. Losing Williams for an indefinite amount of time could give the Philadelphia 76ers the edge they need to overtake the Celtics’ .5-game lead in the division.
Robert Williams, an Oil City, Louisiana, native, went No. 27 overall to the Celtics in the 2018 NBA Draft. He’s contributing more than ever before and he leads his team on the glass. In fact, the fourth-year player is 17th in the NBA in rebounds per game.
Leading up to his injury, Williams started all 61 games for Boston this season. Last year, he only started 13 games in 52 games played. He had one of his highest-scoring games of the season on Sunday night versus the Minnesota Timberwolves before suffering the injury. He had 13 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. The 6-foot-9 center also added a block and a steal.

Former Aggie first-rounder Robert Williams out indefinitely
The former Aggie signed a four-year, $54 million contract extension with the Celtics in August of last year, securing his future with the NBA franchise.
In two seasons at Texas A&M, Robert Williams was an unstoppable force. He was a rebound shy of averaging a double-double as a senior, despite only playing 26 minutes a game. He shot 63% from the field. For his efforts, the SEC’s coaches voted him as co-defensive player of the year.
