Not many people gave Texas A&M a chance on Saturday night against LSU. Brian Kelly’s team was going to be playing in the SEC Championship next week while Jimbo Fisher had seen six straight losses in the SEC. But that’s why you play the game, as the Aggies pulled off an incredible upset at Kyle Field.

Fisher spoke highly of the character his team had throughout the game, admitting it’s been a tough go in College Station. Even so, he is proud of how Texas A&M pulled through and is happy to send the seniors off in winning fashion.

“Listen, we haven’t gotten the results we wanted,” Fisher said. “But I always say adversity reveals your character. And no matter what, we practiced hard every day, we came to play every day. A lot of character. Happy for those seniors to take them out right and for the future of what we can do and we can get the results we want. A lot of character in these kids.”

Jimbo Fisher speaks highly of Devon Achane

Texas A&M depended on the ground game against LSU, turning to running back Devon Achane. He had been dealing with some injuries and if he wanted to, could have sat out to prepare for the upcoming NFL Draft.

Instead, Achane put the team on his back, going for 215 yards and two touchdowns. That’s something you can tell Fisher appreciated, calling Achane the “ultimate team guy” during the postgame interview on the field.

“Devon is the ultimate character, the ultimate team guy,” said Fisher. “All of our kids on our team are but Devon is special. Everyone on the outside said ‘what do we got to play for?’ The kids inside were together the whole time.”

Texas A&M finishes the season at 5-7 but still on a high note. Fisher will be looking to make changes in the program this offseason and get back in contention for the SEC West title. Games like Saturday are ones you can build off of.
