Texas A&M has not had the season they thought they would. Jimbo Fisher is in the midst of an incredible downward slide, losing five games in a row with Auburn next up on the schedule. However, the Aggie fan base has continued to be there for the team, proving to be one of the more loyal ones in the country.

Fisher said that’s a reason why Texas A&M players should continue to play hard this season. Two home games remain against UMass and LSU to close out the year. If nothing else, he wants to play for the 100,00+ packing into Kyle Field, supporting the players.

“You owe it to them,” Fisher said. “Those people are the most loyal — the best fan base in the world. You got to put your heart and soul out there for them. That’s what you do as an athlete. It’s a gladiator’s sport. You go into an arena and you’re there to play and have fun.”

For most, if not everyone on the field, playing college football was a dream growing up. Fisher laid out something kids across the country still do on a daily basis — dreaming of being a football player. He thinks Texas A&M players are getting to live that dream on a weekly basis.

“That’s what you dreamed of since you were five years old. Think about when you used to throw the ball up into the air, grab it, you ran, and five guys tried to tackle you. Just did it for hours in the yard, get the heck beat out of you. And then, all of a sudden, you’re whoever. You’re whatever team you like, you dreamed of. ‘One day, I want to be that guy.’ You’re that guy.”

A common theme for Fisher since the losing streak began is seeing his players develop. There are still future opportunities for Texas A&M’s guys, whether it be in the NFL or elsewhere in college football. Fisher wants them to “take advantage” they have of facing off against quality SEC opponents and continue to grow.

“Don’t be scared of it, go play it, take advantage of that opportunity,” said Fisher. “Don’t take it for granted but don’t take it for anything. Just enjoy the moment that you’ve worked for your whole life and go develop yourself as a player.”

While Texas A&M won’t be in College Station this season, there will still be a small traveling crowd at Jordan-Hare Stadium. It’s another opportunity to make them proud by getting what would be an impressive win on the road.
