Texas A&M has had plenty of ups and downs this baseball season, but appear to be ending the year on a roll. The Aggies found themselves in single elimination play as a No. 10 seed on the first day of the SEC Tournament, but toppled a hot Tennessee team to kick-start a thrilling ride in Hoover. The Aggies lost the next day to Arkansas but responded by winning their next three games, including a revenge victory to knock out the Hogs, before ultimately losing to Vanderbilt in the title game.

Afterwards, junior Jack Moss said he was frustrated A&M couldn’t come home with the SEC tourney crown, but admitted it still feels nice to prove some naysayers wrong after the team was heavily criticized at various points throughout the year.

“Any time you lose a championship, it’s always tough, man. I’m so proud of this team, though, just from being on the road this last week and a half, just to block out all the negativity and criticism that we may have faced, and just to compete and show that we belong on the field with anybody.”

Moss then assured that the Aggies’ postseason run is far from over.

“The one thing is that this isn’t the end of our story. That’s the good part. We still have a lot of baseball to play hopefully from us, and if I’m getting on anybody, it the Aggies. Love these guys. It obviously sucks to come up short today but like Coaches said, you have to credit Vanderbilt. They played great. We just didn’t get it done.”

Jack Moss himself did actually get it done in Hoover last week. The 6-foot-5 slugger recorded base hits in all six SEC Tournament games, including a 2-3 performance at the plate against Arkansas where he reached base four out of five total times at bat. He’s leaving Hoover with eight hits, two runs and plenty of belief that his team can compete with anyone.

Now, A&M will get to prove themselves in the NCAA Tournament as they head west to the Stanford regional to battle it out with a trio of California clubs: host Stanford along with San Jose State and Cal State Fullerton. They’re going to need some Aggie fans to make the westward trek to support them against some local ball teams.
