James Coley reveals his reasons for joining Texas A&M coaching staff
James Coley joined the Texas A&M staff in 2020 as a tight ends coach. Prior to that, he was an offensive staff member at Georgia, Miami, and Florida State among others. That includes stints as an offensive coordinator. Coley is also known as an excellent recruiter, particularly within his native South Florida.
Following a frustrating 2019 season, Georgia coach Kirby Smart demoted James Coley from offensive coordinator to assistant head coach. About a week later, he took the tight ends job with Texas A&M. In 2022, he is making the transition to wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator. Now, he’s explained his reasoning for joining the Texas A&M staff.
“Tradition,” James Coley said simply. “You know that this is a big-time program in a great state that recruiting is–you can find whatever you want. It’s loaded with players. Always been a tough environment that you understood if they were on your schedule not only if you were going away and playing there was going to be tough, but kind of the mindset of the players and the blue-collar of this university. Those are the things that pop in my mind when you see A&M.”

James Coley also pointed out that his relationship with Jimbo Fisher was incredibly important and led him to Texas A&M. That includes time they’ve spent together at LSU and Florida State.
“Obviously, Coach Fisher was a big reason why I’m here, also. I started off with Coach Fisher a long time ago when I was a GA at LSU. And, so, he was a big reason why I’m over here.”
