James Coley came to Texas A&M in 2020 to be the team’s tight ends coach. He decided to go to the Aggies following a demotion at Georgia and to work with Jimbo Fisher again. This year, he was promoted to wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator. He joins Darrell Dickey, who has been the offensive coordinator since 2018.

With that promotion, James Coley’s duties are going to change. In particular, his gameday duties are going to be different every week. There is also a balance for co-coordinators to find. Coley broke down those duties that he’s taking on as co-offensive coordinator.

“Input with the head coach,” James Coley explained his duties during the week. “The final touches, and preparation during the week–organization, along with Coach Dickey. Making sure that Coach Fisher’s thoughts get down and get repped versus the right looks, and making sure that, you know, whatever needs to be messaged to the rest of the guys that we are the voices for that group.”

“During gameday, it’s adjustments. So, it’s continuously looking, asking, alright, what do we gotta do here? They’re doing what to us? Then we give them that input, Coach Dickey in the sky and myself on the sideline.”

James Coley explained why he chose Texas A&M

James Coley made the decision following the 2019 season to leave Georgia’s coaching staff for Texas A&M’s. There were several factors that went into it, including the school itself as well as head coach Jimbo Fisher.

“You know that this is a big-time program in a great state that recruiting is–you can find whatever you want. It’s loaded with players. Always been a tough environment that you understood if they were on your schedule not only if you were going away and playing there was going to be tough, but kind of the mindset of the players and the blue-collar of this university. Those are the things that pop in my mind when you see A&M,” James Coley said.

“Obviously, Coach Fisher was a big reason why I’m here, also. I started off with Coach Fisher a long time ago when I was a GA at LSU. And, so, he was a big reason why I’m over here.”
