Texas A&M was keeping their hot streak from the SEC Tournament in Hoover going over the first two games of the Stanford Regional. Then, with one matchup standing in their way of a berth in the Super Regionals, the Aggies slipped as Stanford forced a winner-take-all game with a 13-5 win on Sunday.

Even so, A&M’s Jim Schlossnagle isn’t too concerned. For starters, he himself has the experience of being in this situation and overcoming it before. From there, he also has ‘supreme confidence’ in his veteran group to take advantage of this moment and get their season to another weekend.

“I mean the first time I ever was a part of a College World Series team as a head coach? We won the first game of the Super Regional and lost the second one 14-1. So I remember that feeling well and that’s what today felt like,” Schlossnagle said. “That team had to win one game and they did. This team isn’t in a Super Regional but it’s the same thing. You’ve got to win one game to advance your season.”

“I have supreme confidence, especially in our older group of players. And we’ve got to go play good baseball,” said Schlossnagle. “Stanford has a really good team. We’re fortunate to have played one less game. Maybe that’ll work to our advantage. It didn’t today but we’ll find out tomorrow.”

With 20 runs, Texas A&M was able to open the regional with wins over Cal State Fullerton and Stanford. However, Sunday’s first rematch with the Cardinals didn’t go as well. The nation’s No. 8 overall seed held a 6-4 lead after two innings and then blew things open with a seven-run inning at the top of the seventh that featured a pair of home runs and some sloppy play by the Aggies.

Still, that loss is behind them. They earned their right to a loss by handling their business in their first two games. Now, with their season on the line, Schlossnagle has every expectation that Texas A&M will do what they need to do in order to advance later on tonight.
