For a while, Texas A&M was the No. 1 team in the country and it seemed as if nobody was going to stop them. Head coach Jim Schlossnagle had the Aggies rolling through the SEC but some hiccups have occurred recently. Two straight series losses are now on the resume, right at the end of the regular season.

Schlossnagle is not too happy with the losses, calling them a concern. There is no doubt Texas A&M is in poor form at the moment while opposing teams have played great baseball. He’s hoping momentum shifts back in his favor this weekend against Arkansas.

“Of course it’s a concern,” Schlossnagle said. “It sucks. It’s brutal. We’ve played poorly, the other teams have played well. But we’ve also played really well leading up to that point… It hasn’t been good. It’s not acceptable and we’re looking to change it this weekend.”

LSU and Ole Miss were the two clubs to take down Texas A&M. The opening two games in the respective series were losses before responding well on Sunday to salvage a win. If there is any silver lining, both were away from College Station and played on the road.

The Arkansas series will take place at Blue Bell Park, a place Schlossnagle has only seen his team lose twice this season. All the other eight losses have been away from home.

Jim Schlossnagle still maintaining Texas A&M has had a ‘great’ season

Yes, the past two weekends for Texas A&M have not been ideal. Losing two or three games to Arkansas at home would only make matters worse and the Aggies would likely stumble into the SEC Tournament.

But Schlossnagle maintains they have had a “great” season and urges people to look at the entire body of work. Likely talking to the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee, where Texas A&M is thought to be a favorite for a top-eight seed.

“I think we’ve put together, overall, a really great season,” Schlossnagle said. “I don’t think you judge any team — I wouldn’t judge you, I hope, on your three worst days of your life. So, judge us on the whole season.”

Assuming the regular season ends on a high note, Texas A&M will likely be happy with their placing in the NCAA Tournament. Having the chance to host a regional is a virtual lock while being in position to host a Super Regional is trending in the right direction.

On3’s Jonathan Wagner currently has the Aggies as the No. 5 overall seed in his hosting projections.
