After winning their first two games at the College World Series, the Texas A&M Aggies and head coach Jim Schlossnagle are waiting to find out their next opponent.

That next game for Texas A&M is going to be on Wednesday and, following Texas A&M’s win on Monday, Jim Schlossnagle shared that pitcher Justin Lamkin is going to be available to start for the Aggies in that game.

“Yes, he will be available to start,” Jim Schlossnagle said. “I’m not telling you he’s gonna. I want to see who we’re going to play, see how Justin feels, get a feel for our team, the match-up and conditions.”

Justin Lamkin pitched in Texas A&M’s first game against the Florida Gators. That game, which saw a long delay due to weather, saw Lamkin pitch three innings for the Aggies. In that short outing, he was excellent, striking out six without allowing a run.

After that game, Schlossnagle was asked if they pulled Lamkin due to the delay. However, he made it clear that it wasn’t because of the delay but because they wanted to have him available down the line in Omaha.

“We just felt like if we let him go any longer, even if we won the game and won the next game, we’re going to be creating stuff in the third game,” Schlossnagle said.

“And I know you’ve got to win the first one. Everybody says that. But we’re trying to win — we’re trying to win the whole thing or at least give ourselves a chance without [Shane] Sdao. So we felt if we kept him under a certain number of pitches and we had a day off, and if we could somehow win the second game I think we get another day. Then maybe Lamkin can come back and help us out some.”

Justin Lamkin did not pitch against Kentucky in Texas A&M’s second game in Omaha. Luckily, the Aggies didn’t need him to pitch either, with Texas A&M winning 5-1.

Now, Texas A&M is getting ready to play either Kentucky or Florida, depending on which of the two teams wins their elimination game.

Jim Schlossnagle provides injury update on Texas A&M pitcher Shane Sdao

Texas A&M, thanks to injuries, has had its pitching depth tested. One of those injuries is to Shane Sdao, who Jim Schlossnagle still doesn’t have an injury update on.

“Nothing as of now. I think he passed some of the physical tests pretty well, but it’s obviously scary. I mean, Sdao is just super competitive, and for him to do that the first couple of pitches of the game were 90-91. I was like, what we got going on here? Then he spit a 94 up there. I was like, okay. Then when he made that motion to call it, I was hoping it was the pitch com thing,” Schlossnagle said.

“We’ll see. We’ll get an MRI this week, and hopefully, we’re obviously not going to risk anything. He’s got a bright future ahead of him, so we’ll just have to wait to see.”
