Things did not get off to an auspicious start for Texas A&M in the Bryan-College Station Super Regional, as Aggies star Braden Montgomery left the field with an air cast on his right ankle after a play at the plate in the 1st inning.

It’s a big blow for Texas A&M early in the best-of-three series versus Oregon, and head coach Jim Schlossnagle shared his early reaction with the ESPN broadcast during the 5th inning of the game. The biggest piece of information he still hadn’t figured out, he said, was whether or not there had been a collision or just an awkward slide from Montgomery.

Either way, he knows the prognosis for the two-way star isn’t great at the moment.

“Obviously saw him,” Schlossnagle said. “Tried to score from second base and kind of a little bit of an awkward slide. I didn’t see if there was a collision or not, but yeah he’s banged up pretty good.”

Despite the big bump early, though, the Aggies rallied and managed to take a 7-6 lead over the Ducks right before Schlossnagle got on the mic. Even still, Schlossnagle was unsatisfied.

“Yeah, we’ve — we could even be better,” Schlossnagle said. “We swung at another ball right there. You’ve gotta check your ego at the door and make these guys throw strikes.”

Texas A&M is a strong favorite to advance to Omaha

Texas A&M is the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA Baseball Tournament and emerged victorious in the College Station Regional with a 3-0 record. The Ducks, on the other hand, pulled off the upset in the Santa Barbara Regional to advance. They twice defeated No. 14 overall seed UC Santa Barbara, including 3-0 in the final game to punch their ticket to the next round.
