Texas A&M baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle wants a big change to the NCAA Baseball Tournament, in terms of the format.

The 64 best teams should make it, but there should be 32 hosts in the first round. From there, it’s best two out of three series until you get the final eight teams.

That’s how to get to Omaha and ideally the best eight teams are playing for a College World Series title, according to Schlossnagle.

“You know, this is a topic that I’m very passionate about,” Schlossnagle said on Sirius XM. “I think we should change our format. We would either have to add a week to the season or push the College World Series back but I think the college baseball postseason should be pretty 32 best two out of threes. That way you spread the host sites, you double the host sites, that really grows the game and it mirrors the season. You have 32 best two out of three, then you have 16 best two out threes. Then you have eight best two out of threes and then those are eight teams that go to Omaha.

“So I think that you would truly have a better chance to get the best eight teams to Omaha because Southeast Missouri, you know they, or whoever, Kansas State, they might be able to beat Hagen Smith on one day, but let’s see it over the course of three days. It could still happen as we’ll see in the Super Regionals, but it just doesn’t mirror our season.”

Texas A&M beat Grambling, Texas and Louisiana in the College Station Regional to advance to the Super Regional, beginning Saturday against Oregon.

The biggest thing for Schlossnagle is to just make the early rounds make sense. He cited the Aggies being a de facto road team despite hosting the regional as a reason for change.

Logically speaking, the higher seeded and host teams should in fact be, the home team.

“You have to play the juggle the pitching game. I mean, we were a national seed,” Schlossnagle said. “We’re a host, and we were the visiting team in two of our three games. How that’s fair? I don’t know. So those are some conversations that I’d like to have and you know, when all this is over, we have our you know, baseball committee meetings in the offseason, but it’s very different. And you definitely have to manage it differently.”
