Jimbo Fisher asks reporters for injury update on players, calls out ‘sources’

After struggling with a rash of injuries to their football team a year ago, Texas A&M is looking much healthier this time around, at least to start the season. The Aggies’ bill of health is so clean that Fisher is now getting injury questions about players who are totally healthy.
One reporter asked Coach Fisher about A&M’s injury situation, especially regarding the offensive line and offensive tackles. In response, he discussed defensive back Deuce Harmon’s continued recovery before getting to the OL portion of the question later on.
“Good, I mean we should be good. I think we’ll ease Deuce into practice as we go, because he hasn’t practiced,” answered Fisher. “Like I said, Deuce from the injury from the spring, we’ll ease him back into practice camp the right way and get him healthy and get him going which, he is. But you know, he’ll take some individual reps and go, but we should be good.”
Though he gave a thorough answer on Harmon, Fisher was perplexed by the question. “Why? Was there a problem with a tackle?” he asked the reporter.
There was a problem with a tackle, in fact, as the reporter suggested that reserve OT Trey Zuhn was still recovering from an injury from the previous fall. Asked if Zuhn was alright, Fisher widened his eyes and said “yeah” as if he was just hearing about the injury for the first time.

“Why?” Fisher continued, and was reminded that Zuhn did have an injury last year. “No, Zuhn is fine,” he then clarified before launching into a sarcastic tirade towards the reporter:
“I mean he was concerning me,” Fisher said of the reporter. “Somebody I didn’t know. I mean, you got — you guys always — you guys always get the inside sources and the inside people, you say you know more than we do, so I was just asking him my injury report. I was just trying to find out. You better change sources. You had the wrong guy. Your source flubbed ya.”
Ouch.
Tough look for that reporter but good news for Texas A&M that the roster is in great shape health-wise. Of course, that could all change in Week 1. A lot of teams enter the year healthy, but the toll of a 12-game schedule, especially in the SEC, often results in some band-aids and bruises at important positions. Avoiding another year of massive injury numbers is key for an A&M bounce-back.
