Jimbo Fisher assesses the play of Zach Calzada vs. LSU
Jimbo Fisher wasn’t able to ensure Ed Orgeron would leave LSU following a loss. Still, he isn’t blaming quarterback Zach Calzada for Texas A&M being unable to leave Baton Rouge victorious.
In his post-game press conference, Fisher assessed the play of Calzada against LSU.
“Thought he battled, thought he competed. Made plays. Scrambled. Made some really big-time throws. I thought he played his tail off,” stated Fisher. “Some plays he’d have back, he missed some reads — yeah. Like the quarterbacks, most of them do in games.
“But thought he battled hard. Made some great plays in the game. Put us in the position to win the game .. had an opportunity to win the game.”
Moreover, Calzada‘s numbers from the game lend credence to Fisher’s positive assessment of the quarterback. On Saturday, Calzada completed 20 of 35 passes — accumulating 242 yards and three touchdowns.
Afterwards, the Aggies were critical of the way the game was officiated by SEC referees. Specifically, safety Demani Richardson took to Twitter after the game to vent.
“THEM REFS NEED TO BE FIRED!” Richardson exclaimed, following the loss.
Two specific calls had Fisher, Calzada and the rest of the Aggies irate. First, LSU’s Josh Palmer had the ball stripped from his grasps on a punt return. Still, LSU retained the ball — officials ruled the play dead. However, the whistle came after Texas A&M already had the football. After shockingly retaining possession, LSU went on their game-winning drive.
The second instance that drew the ire of Texas A&M actually came on the game-winning touchdown pass to Jaray Jenkins. While the play was electric, it also could’ve been called offensive pass interference.

Now, the Aggies enter bowl season without the momentum they were steadily building. As for LSU, Orgeron can ride into the sunset after a thrilling victory.
Jimbo Fisher shares how much loss against LSU hurts
Texas A&M fell to 8-4 after a disappointing loss against LSU in the final seconds of Ed Orgeron’s coaching career. After falling behind 17-7, the Aggies stormed back to take a 24-20 lead which disappeared in the final seconds of the 27-24 loss.
After the game, Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher addressed how much the rivalry week loss to LSU hurt and how it compares to other losses throughout his career.
“Listen, they all hurt,” Fisher told reporters during his postgame press conference. “They all hurt when you don’t have success. There’s no one that hurts any more, they’re all the same.”
Over his career, Jimbo Fisher has been lucky enough to accumulate more wins than losses, with a 117-37 record overall between Florida State and Texas A&M. The former LSU offensive coordinator was brought up as a candidate to take over for Orgeron but has firmly denied any rumors.
