Jimbo Fisher breaks down Devon Achane impact, second-half plan to take down LSU
The Texas A&M Aggies entered the second half with a 17-10 lead over LSU, and coach Jimbo Fisher shared a look at how their lead was built. Fisher spoke on the field with ESPN’s Katie George as the teams entered the locker rooms, and gave praise to Devon Achane‘s impact on the game and how they were able to sustain major drives on every possession they’d had so far.
Jimbo Fisher on controlling the first half against LSU
Fisher began his on-field interview with a breakdown of how Achane’s personal skills were working together with the team’s offensive effort to create the dominant first half he had. Achane racked up 119 yards and a touchdown in the first half alone, leading the way on the Aggies’ long, sustained drives.
“Well I think his natural running skill. He’s so patient, he knows when to explode and we’re controlling the line of scrimmage. Our offensive line, when they’re blocking him and giving him seams. And you can see what he’s doing and Connor’s really managing the game. Making the right throws and good decisions, we’re executing,” answered Fisher.
Fisher was then asked about how they were able to sustain the drives like they did in the first half, and how they intended to continue their work in the second half.

“The same thing, we’ve gotta stay ahead of the chains. Because that’s when they get into, when they can pass rush — they have great loose down pass rush guys. We gotta stay ahead of the chains, stay physical. Make sure our third downs are very manageable. And be able to take our shots and control the game.”
The Aggies made the most out of their possessions early, with only three possessions they managed to score on each and run 36 plays in total for an average of 12 plays per drive.
