Jimbo Fisher evaluates Conner Weigman's play at Auburn
After a season-long quarterback competition, Texas A&M has rolled with the freshman Conner Weigman for the last two weeks as their QB1. His first two starts came in losses but the young quarterback is learning through experience towards the end of the SEC season.
Jimbo Fisher spoke highly of Weigman and his performance at Auburn during his radio show on Wednesday night. He said his young signal caller showed a lot of poise in the road environment and that that should be a great sign of things to come.

“Conner played good. As far as the poise? That didn’t bother him. He handled that very well,” said Fisher. “Great poise, great composure. Could come over and talk on the sideline (about) what was going on, what happened. Even if he made a mistake, didn’t make a mistake, or whatever went on. He’s gonna be really good.”
Weigman did complete just 14 of his 36 pass attempts against the Tigers. Still, he has yet to throw an interception so far and posted 121 yards and a touchdown in the loss. That puts Weigman at 459 yards and five touchdowns over his two starts that A&M has lost by just six points combined.
Experimenting with Haynes King and Max Johnson eventually led to this peak into what could be a future where Fisher and the Aggies lean on Weigman as their starter moving forward in his career. He has a lot of growing still to do but, as far as starts go, Weigman has had a solid one to begin his college football career.

Jimbo Fisher says UMass will be ‘extremely challenging’ on Conner Weigman
Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher isn’t downplaying the challenge that the Massachusetts defense presents for true freshman quarterback Conner Weigman. Although the Minutemen (1-9) might not have the brand name of the SEC schools the Aggies have faced this year, Fisher knows his team can’t afford to overlook them.
After beginning the season ranked No. 6, A&M is in the midst of a six-game losing streak and has already been eliminated from bowl eligibility. For that reason, Fisher wants Weigman to prepare for this game like he would any other.
“These guys cause you all kind of problems on defense,” the coach said. “It’ll be extremely challenging for him because of how they blitz and the fronts they do and the scheme. They’re a very challenging team. It’s gonna be just like he’s in a conference game and playing anybody else in America.”
Jimbo Fisher is not wrong about the challenge UMass defense present to Conner Weigman on paper, as the Minutemen rank 19th in the FBS with 184.5 air yards allowed per game. They are also coming away with nearly an interception per game. For Weigman, a five-star recruit who ranked as the No. 4 quarterback in the 2022 class according to On3 Consensus, this will be an opportunity to finish out the year strong as he should battle for the starting job next season.
