Texas A&M Set to Part Ways With Jimbo Fisher

Texas A&M is reportedly set to part ways with head coach Jimbo Fisher according to Billy Liucci.

“BREAKING: Per multiple sources, Texas A&M set to part ways with Jimbo Fisher as early as today,” Liucci wrote on Twitter. “Decision was reached at the recommendation of the Athletic Dept/University president during last Thursday’s Board of Regents meeting.”

UPDATE: Texas A&M has parted ways with head coach Jimbo Fisher, per ESPN’s Chris Low.

This comes on the heels of Texas A&M’s 51-10 win over Mississippi State.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the Texas A&M Board of Regents discussed Fisher’s future with the program at a Thursday meeting.

“Sources: The future of Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher was discussed heavily in an executive session of a Texas A&M Board of Regents meeting on Thursday,” Thamel wrote on Twitter. “A decision on Fisher’s future is expected in the near future. He’s owed nearly $76 million if fired.”

Texas A&M, Jimbo Fisher could part ways Sunday

Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger also reported Texas A&M is moving in the direction of firing Fisher, as early as Sunday.

Texas A&M is moving closer to a decision on firing Jimbo Fisher, sources tell Yahoo Sports,” Dellenger wrote on Twitter. “A team meeting is planned for later today,” “The groundwork for the move was laid Thursday during executive session of the A&M Board of Regents.”

The future of Fisher was much discussed by media members this season as soon as it was clear Texas A&M would not contend for the SEC and College Football Playoff. In fact, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum listed some candidates that could potentially replace Fisher.

As it stands, Fisher has a 44-25 record at Texas A&M since 2018. The team never made it to the SEC Championship Game.

Fisher led the Aggies to a 9-1 record in 2020, during the COVID shortened season, but never got to double digit victories.

Prior to Texas A&M, Fisher coached at Florida State from 2010-17 and won the 2013 BCS National Championship, the final title game. Fisher also led FSU to the inaugural College Football Playoff in 2014.

He finished 83-23 with the Seminoles. In total, Fisher is 127-48 as a head coach.
