Jimbo Fisher gives update on quarterback Haynes King injury
Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher told the CBS broadcast team that quarterback Haynes King is unlikely to return from injury this season. CBS Sports’ Jamie Erdahl revealed Fisher’s update during the pregame broadcast of Saturday night’s game between Texas A&M and Alabama.
Haynes King injury update
The update given during the broadcast shed further light on the injury situation surrounding King and his return timeframe for this season. King’s return being “unlikely” means that the Aggies will now have to figure out how to close out their season with Zach Calzada as their starter.
Not having King available this season could result in him being medically redshirted for the season to preserve his eligibility.
The Aggies enter Saturday’s game with Alabama unranked despite beginning the season with high hopes at a potential SEC championship or more. With early losses to Arkansas and Mississippi State, the Aggies are now attempting to reach their early season expectations. A win against undefeated and No. 1 ranked Alabama would make a major statement.
In five games as the Aggies quarterback this season, sophomore Zach Calzada has thrown 69 completions on 128 attempts for a 53.9 percent accuracy rate. Calzada has 744 yards and five touchdowns with four interceptions on the year.

King’s recovery timeline
On3’s Matt Zenitz and Gerry Hamilton reported shortly after his injury that King had surgery and was expected to be out until at least mid-October.
Fisher provided an update of the surgery at the time and what the next steps were for King.
“He had a crack in his lower leg that they fixed and operated on,” Fisher said. “It went clean as a whistle; went really good. Was as good as it could humanly be, as far as the prognosis of things.
“Now, timeline, I’m not a doctor and I’m not going to say. When you heal, you heal, and we would never play him in any way, shape or form before that.”
While an exact date for his return hasn’t been pinned down, Fisher’s comments on Saturday seem to indicate that it will not be this season despite their early optimism.
