Evan Stewart is a five-star wide receiver from the Class of 2022. The Frisco, Texas native got to campus for the spring, where he impressed Jimbo Fisher and the Texas A&M coaching staff right away. That’s continued as the Aggies have moved into fall camp.

Jimbo Fisher met with members of the media, where he heaped praise on the young wide receiver.

“Yes,” Jimbo Fisher told a reporter when asked if he has seen a receiver pick up the speed of the college game as quickly as Stewart. He then laughed because the reporter was expecting to be told no.

“But, at the same time, it is very difficult,” Jimbo Fisher said. “It is very hard. And it takes a level, you think, ‘oh boy he’s really gifted. But, more importantly, how mature is he? How well does he learn, how well does he adapt, how well does he adapt to failures?’ Cause, as a young guy you’re gonna have failures. And, I think, from that standpoint, he does a really good job.”

“As quickly as he’s done things and had good success, he has to remember he is a freshman and make sure when we’re coaching him and how we’re coaching him. And, we make sure we’re dotting i’s crossing t’s and making sure we don’t get out of that framework of keeping him in that realm. But, at the same time, he’s gotta go play and he’s doing that.”

“I had guys do it, but he’s definitely and one I think his maturity, his drive, his intelligence, his ability to comprehend, and his ability to adapt and adjust as you learn the things on defense. Not just, alright you learn what you do on offense, but how does it fit to inside leverage, outside leverage, bracket coverage, zone coverage, man coverage, how plays can change off of that. And, I think, his comprehension of football in general, along with his overall intelligence, allows him to have success early,” Jimbo Fisher concluded.

Evan Stewart is one of ESPN’s top-25 newcomers

Jimbo Fisher will need to find a good way to use Evan Stewart in the Texas A&M offense. After all, Evan Stewart is one of the best newcomers to college football in 2022.

ESPN recently released its list of the top 25 newcomers to college football in 2022. Evan Stewart was the 21st player listed, and one of two Texas A&M Aggies, along with Walter Nolen.

ESPN doesn’t simply define newcomers as true freshmen. They define newcomers as the best players in their first year with a program, making it so transfers are included. It also makes being included as a freshman incredibly difficult. So, Jimbo Fisher is probably right to praise his young wide receiver.
