Jimbo Fisher shares health update on Max Johnson, Le'Veon Moss
Texas A&M seems to be limping toward the end of the season, especially on the injury front. There was a big fear surrounding running back Le’Veon Moss, with the thought being he could miss an extended period of time. Jimbo Fisher provided an update during his Monday press conference with positive news coming.
Fisher said Moss is going to be “day to day” and there is no surgery required. Moss suffered the injury against Ole Miss after taking a helmet to his knee. While the running back room might be an area of strength of Texas A&M, Moss would have been a big loss for the final three games of the year.
“Le’Veon got tackled,” Fisher said. “He’s walking around. It’s not a tear, no surgery. It looked like some of the swelling really went out. We’ll go day-to-day on that.”
Against Ole Miss, Moss received nine carries for 52 yards and got into the end zone once. To this point of the season, he is Texas A&M’s leading rusher with 439 yards.
Jimbo Fisher on Max Johnson, potential quarterback plan
Texas A&M quarterback Max Johnson has been a trooper since taking over for Conner Weigman. He has taken big shots on multiple different occasions throughout the weeks. Ole Miss definitely delivered a few blows, leaving Johnson’s health in question.
For the time being, Fisher revealed he expects Johnson to play against Mississippi State. Things can obviously change, with Fisher using the “day by day” designation once again.

“Max finished the game with a couple of tough shots,” Fisher said. “But we’ll wait and see how it goes. I’m planning on him playing, hopefully. We’ll see as it goes day by day.”
If Johnson cannot play, Fisher will have to go further down on the depth chart. When a reporter suggested Anias Smith potentially getting work as a wildcat quarterback, there was a laughing dismissal from the head coach.
“Jaylen (Henderson) would be the next quarterback and he would play,” Fisher said. “He and Marcel (Reed) would play. They’re the three and fours.”
Texas A&M currently has a 5-4 record and needs just one more win to gain bowl eligibility. They will be hoping Johnson and Moss will be there to guide the offense in the final three games. Mississippi State will be first up at home before hosting ACU and traveling to Baton Rouge for the season finale against LSU.
