After an entire offseason of hype around the AlabamaTexas A&M game it certainly delivered, with the Crimson Tide holding off the Aggies 24-20 with a stop deep in the red zone on the final play of the game. But Texas A&M’s coach made one thing clear: Jimbo Fisher, moral victories? There are no such thing.

Fisher discussed that topic after the game.

“Well you’ve got to grab onto it. I think each week you’ve got to,” Fisher said. “But you can’t take moral victories.”

For Texas A&M, the first half of the season comes to an end with a 3-3 record. The Aggies had lofty ambitions as a potential College Football Playoff Contender, but those are obviously shot at this point.

Quarterback question marks and an offense that has been highly inconsistent have plagued Fisher’s squad, leading many to wonder when a real turnaround might be coming.

Saturday’s showing was hopeful, but that’s all it really was for the man in charge.

“I don’t believe in moral victories,” Jimbo Fisher said.

Texas A&M looking to grow from Alabama game

As noted, quarterback questions have been a big part of Texas A&M’s tumultuous 2022 campaign. Haynes King began the year as the starter, lost his job to Max Johnson after struggling, then regained it after Johnson was injured.

King played admirably in the loss behind an Aggies’ offensive line that nearly got him killed. Fisher thinks the loss can be a building block for the program.

“We’re a good football team,” he said. “You show the growth in what you can be and what you can do and you compete against a very good team we have a lot of respect for, who’s coached very well, have good players and battled. Our guys went there toe to toe. We went toe to toe with them.”

So if Jimbo Fisher takes no moral victories, how does Texas A&M proceed from here?

One way: Learn from it.

“I mean, that shows you what you’re capable of and now we’ve got to have that urgency,” Fisher said. “Sometimes with younger guys, you’ve got to see that — what you can be. We’ve got to bring that same energy and force into every game the last six games of the year.”
