Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher very nearly became roadkill in a game against Auburn on Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies head coach was standing on the field when a play suddenly and unexpectedly went the other way, and Fisher had to freeze in position to avoid being run over by a Tigers defender.

The play started with a simple stretch run to the right side of the line by Texas A&M running back Rueben Owens. Owens tried to get outside, but Auburn’s Kayin Lee popped him around the arms and the ball squirted loose up into the air.

It came down right in the hands of Auburn defensive back Eugene Asante, who took off down the sideline.

As he did, he was greeted by an unusual sight. He had the white chalk of the sidelines to his left and the white jacket of Jimbo Fisher to his right.

Fisher froze before ducking back onto the sideline when Asante scooted past, scoring on a 33-yard touchdown return to make it 20-10 Texas A&M early in the fourth quarter.

For a split second, though, Fisher had to be fearing for his life. Check it out below.

Max Johnson was ready as the backup

Texas A&M was clinging to a lead in the fourth quarter in large part thanks to backup quarterback Max Johnson. Johnson entered the game after starter Conner Weigman left with an apparent ankle injury in the second quarter.

Johnson, former LSU standout, picked up right where he left off with the Tigers, guiding the Aggies to back-to-back touchdown drives to extend the lead from 6-3 to 20-3.

Johnson even hit his brother Jake Johnson for his first career touchdown catch in the process.

Still, all eyes will be on the status of Weigman going forward. ESPN’s update during the game didn’t sound promising.

“Conner Weigman has gone into the locker room to have further evaluation on his left ankle,” ESPN’s Kris Budden said. “They took him off in the injury tent. Jimbo Fisher went in to check on him. I watched him and heard him coming off the field, he was shouting in pain, barely able to put any pressure on that left lower leg.”
