Jimbo Fisher was this season’s biggest firing as his tenure at Texas A&M came to an end after six seasons. Even he didn’t see that decision on the horizon in College Station, though.

Fisher discussed the Aggies’ decision to let him go during an appearance on ‘Pardon My Take’ to end the week. He said that, when it comes to being fired, you never expect that to happen. Fisher especially felt that way because of how he thought Texas A&M was finishing the season.

“No. I mean you don’t ever see it coming,” said Fisher.

“I still thought we were playing well, we had a great game,” Fisher recalled. “We’re going to, hopefully, finish out at probably 8-4 or so. Have a chance to go 8-4 or 9-4, win nine games. Then it happened.”

Over 70 games as head coach at Texas A&M, Fisher was 45-25 (0.643). His first four seasons were fairly great finishes at a mark of 34-14 (0.708). That included a 9-1 record in 2020 when they were one spot out of the playoff. Still, the lack of postseason success involving the SEC Championship and College Football Playoff caused some discontent.

Then, over the last two seasons, that boiled over down in Aggieland. The results were not matching the talent as Texas A&M has gone went 11-11 over Fisher’s final games as the leader of the program. His mark of 6-4 in 2023 was better than the 5-7 finish in 2022 but, all in all, it still fell well short of expectations.

That’s why, following a win over Mississippi State, Texas A&M let Fisher go on November 12th before the final two games of the season.

In the end, Fisher hoped to have continued to his work to get the Aggies back on the right track that he thought they were on. Since he didn’t get that chance, though, all he can do now is wish all sides well, including the players who had committed to compete for him.

“I really think the team we had coming and what we had going was going to be a really good football team. But, you know, hey – that’s it,” said Fisher. “That’s their choice, that’s what they make.”

“I wish them the best and I hope those kids have success,” Fisher said.

Report: Former Texas A&M WR Evan Stewart visiting Oregon

Former Texas A&M WR Evan Stewart could be headed to visit a certain Pacific Northwest powerhouse this weekend.

According to 247’s Matt Zenitz, Stewart is lined up for a visit to Eugene to check out the Oregon Ducks in the coming days. Here was that report:

“The current plan is for former Texas A&M star wide receiver Evan Stewart to visit Oregon this weekend, sources tell @247Sports”

Due to injuries, Stewart only played in eight games this past season. He caught 38 passes for 514 yards, both being lower than his freshman haul back in 2022 (53 and 649). Stewart did double his touchdown total, though, by snagging four.
