Jimbo Fisher praises Aggies effort against Alabama, tells team to ignore scoreboard

Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher shared his halftime message to his team against Alabama, asking them to execute better. The Aggies trailed the Crimson Tide 17-14 at the break, but Fisher believes his team’s effort was at the right level — and that they needed to execute better to win the game.

“Coach Fisher told me he knows that the want is there, they just need to go out and execute,” detailed CBS Sports’ Jenny Dell during the third quarter. “He told his team to focus on one play at a time. He wants them to be more physical at the line of scrimmage. He also told me that he wants Haynes King to trust his eyes more in the second half.
“He told his team ‘don’t look at the scoreboard,’ but I’m not sure that’s exactly how he envisioned this second half starting.”
Unfortunately for the Aggies, Alabama opened the quarter with another scoring drive from Jalen Milroe — his third passing touchdown of the game. The 75-yard touchdown drive was capped off by a 29-yard passing touchdown to Ja’Corey Brooks, and the Alabama lead grew to 24-14.

The Aggies continued to battle though, and held Alabama to zero points for the remainder of the game. Trailing 24-17 in the fourth quarter with just over six minutes left in the game, Fisher made the call to go for it on fourth-and-two on the edge of field goal range. The Aggies picked up the first down and eventually brought their drive down to another fourth down opportunity in the red zone. A pair of false starts pushed them back and the Aggies took the field goal.
With the game on the line in the final minutes, Haynes King threw an interception in the end zone that was called back due to pass interference. With a fresh set of downs on the goal line, Texas A&M tried to deliver the game-winning touchdown — only to fall short and lose 24-20.
