Texas A&M got off to a hot start behind quarterback Conner Weigman against Ole Miss, and coach Jimbo Fisher praised the job he did early. Weigman and the Aggies entered the locker rooms at halftime with a 14-10 lead behind 10-for-12 passing, 119 yards and two touchdowns in his first start.

As Fisher came off the field with his team after the second quarter, he was asked on the field about how he thought Weigman’s first start went. Fisher was upset with his defense as he walked off the field, and made sure to point out his frustrations were not with the effort Weigman put together to start the game.

“I feel great,” said Fisher about Weigman’s start. “I’m not frustrated with him, I’m frustrated with our line. We missed a third-and-one block, we turned a guard loose right up here and we go and gash it for a big play. Should’ve scored. [Ole Miss] get penetration on a three-man rush, should never have penetration.

“He’s playing awesome. He’s been awesome.

“We played fast early, we’ve gotta play more consistent. We should’ve scored on all those drives. Missed that. We had the other situation… missed signal on the other… We’re moving the ball well, just gotta keep it poised and finishing drives.”

Weigman and the Aggies started out red-hot with two touchdowns on their first two drives of the game — including a fantastic pass by Weigman to the corner of the end zone. He received plenty of help leading the offense behind the incredible running game of Devon Achane. Achane finished the first half with 17 carries for 124 yards, including a 31-yard run he nearly broke for a touchdown.

The game is Achane’s sixth career 120-yard rushing game, with the Aggies being 5-0 in the previous five times it has happened.
