Jimbo Fisher provides update on Tyree Johnson injury
Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher spoke on Saturday after their dominant win over South Carolina and provided an update on defensive end Tyree Johnson. Johnson suffered a non-contact injury to his right leg on a pass rush. He was helped off the field by trainers and could not put pressure on the leg as he left the field.
Fisher on Tyree Johnson injury
During his press conference, Fisher was asked about the emergence of Tyree Johnson as a star on their defense this season.
“I hope he’s alright, he got nicked up there,” Fisher stated about Johnson’s injury. “But I think he’ll be okay. His ability to rush the passer — he can sink, run and he’s really — he’s been playing great football. Great football.”
So far this season, Johnson has recorded a new career high for a season with six sacks. He has already eclipsed his previous total of four sacks in 2020 where he ended second on the Aggies in total sacks. Five of his six total came over the last three games alone, as Johnson has been a force on defense of late.
Before leaving the game with injury, Johnson picked up another two sacks and two tackles against South Carolina.

Texas A&M dominant over South Carolina
Despite the injury to Tyree Johnson, Saturday’s performance was another high point of the season for the Aggies. Texas A&M dominated the Gamecocks 44-14 in a game that appeared fully over by halftime. After two quarters, the Aggies were up 31-0 and held South Carolina to only 11 yards of total offense in the entire half.
When it was over, Texas A&M averaged six yards a play for the entire game and racked up 477 yards of offense. Their offensive output was the Aggies’ highest of the season against an SEC opponent.
The Aggies improved to 6-2 on the season with the win in a season that started in disappointing fashion before a massive win against Alabama. Fisher’s win over Alabama marked the first time a former assistant of Nick Saban has beaten him as a head coach.
Texas A&M has a week off before their next opponent when they host Auburn on Nov. 6.
