Texas A&M and head coach Jimbo Fisher have had a rough 2022 season, to put it lightly. This season has been arguably one of the rougher ones in recent Aggies history and for Fisher. 2022 has been riddled with numerous amount of challenges for the program. And Fisher has dealt with the challenges by keeping his emotions out of it and not allowing his circumstances this season to define who he is.

“Emotions you keep out of it. I mean, you’re disappointed you’re trying to figure out ways to find answers,” said Fisher. “Anytime you’re not where you want to be; you’re constantly looking, pushing, challenging, evaluating, changing, and thinking. But it’s a part of life. If something goes bad in life, something can go bad in anything. It’s no different from that perspective.

“It makes you evaluate everything that you do, what you do, and try to keep the guys and help them understand that you can’t let circumstances define who you are. You can never let your circumstances define who you are. That doesn’t mean that you’re content with them or happy with them, but it’s how you go about your business in a daily process. Whether you’re winning 11-0 or you’re having a season like we’re having right now. But your process of how you go about yourself and who you are as a person can’t change. It challenges you, and I think it will make you stronger in the future. And hopefully, you learn from it, but it’s not fun when it’s going, I can promise you that.”

The Aggies still have one more game left in the season, which is a home game against LSU. Although their season is likely over after that game, a win on Saturday could be huge in giving Texas A&M momentum heading into 2023.

Fisher reacts to Texas A&M’s victory over UMass: ‘We still got a long way to go’

On a rainy day at Kyle Field in which Texas A&M struggled to hold onto the football in the first half, the Aggies ironed things out in the second half to come away with a 20-3 victory over UMass. Jimbo Fisher sounded impressed with his young players, but he acknowledged the works that’s still left to do.

Texas A&M led 10-3 heading into halftime, but put together a solid final two quarters to defeat the Minutemen for its fourth win of the season. Quarterback Conner Weigman had a good day, completing 11 of 19 passes for 155 yards and a touchdown in the air while also rushing for 66 yards on the ground.

All in all, it was a good bounce back for Fisher’s group after last week’s loss to Auburn. That doesn’t mean he’s satisfied, though.

“We still got a long way to go,” Fisher told ESPN+’s Marilyn Payne. “At the same time, there’s still a lot of fight, there’s a lot of heart, there’s a lot of guts in these guys. We’re still playing hard, no matter what the circumstances are. They overcame today, did what they had to do and defensively, I thought we were outstanding in the game.
