At this point of the season, Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher is facing a seven-win record, or worse, and his critics are in overdrive. On his radio show on Wednesday, Fisher opened up about the difficulty he’s dealt with this season, which he says could be the toughest yet.

“By far, by far the most difficult,” Fisher said in response to a question from a fan. “Because you’re so close in so many areas and right there. And at the same time, you’re trying to deal with young guys and make sure you’re having success and you’re not getting that, you’re not finding it.

“As far as the difficulty of it, the difficult times, the bad times, they make the good times better. A bad day on the field is better than a good day anywhere else, to me, I believe that wholeheartedly. At the same time, you’ve got to find a way to make those plays, you’ve got to find a way to do it.”

The Aggies head into Week 10 with a four-game losing streak and they lost each of their last three by less than a touchdown. In fact, four of their five losses came in one-score games.

That being said, the only team they’ve dominated this season was the opener versus Sam Houston State. Every matchup has been a battle since.

With the Florida Gators coming up next, Fisher and the Aggies are desperate for a victory. Kickoff is at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday in College Station.

Billy Napier raves over Jimbo Fisher

It’s needless to say that this season hasn’t been the highlight of Jimbo Fisher’s career. However, some of the criticism glosses over what he has accomplished over his last decade-plus as a head coach. That’s certainly how Billy Napier feels about Fisher despite the two coaches facing off this Saturday.

Napier spoke about his relationship with Fisher during his press conference on Monday. He said he’s grateful to the Aggies skipper for giving him an opportunity before he earned his spot at Alabama.

“Couldn’t be more thankful for Jimbo. (He) gave me an opportunity. I was actually with him for probably five or six weeks there before accepting the job at Alabama,” said Napier. “He had tremendous success at Florida State. Won a national championship, evaluated and recruited well. He had some fantastic coaches there and did something there that hadn’t been done in a long time. Very thankful for that opportunity. It’s pretty well documented what Jimbo has been able to accomplish in his career.”

Fisher’s recent struggles at Texas A&M do take away from over ten years of successful coaching in the sport. As Napier highlighted, though, Fisher finished his eight-year Florida State tenure with an 83-23 record. He also has a national championship to show for it. He has yet to take the Aggies to those same heights but has still recruited well in College Station and had never won less than eight games there before this season.
