Jimbo Fisher says Moose Muhammad has a 'tremendous future' ahead
Texas A&M had a down year overall on the football field, and really struggled on the offensive end, where they shuffled through a number of quarterbacks, ultimately unable to find the right recipe for success under center. However, Aggie fans can take solace in knowing that the future is bright among their wide receiver room, so long as they can stave off the transfer portal.
A&M’s top two pass catchers were a true freshman and a redshirt sophomore — guys with two or more years left with the program. Five-star true freshman Evan Stewart led all receivers with 649yards, while sophomore Moose Muhammad was right behind him with 610 and a team-high four touchdown grabs on the year.
After the season, Jimbo Fisher had glowing reviews of Moose when asked about him in a press conference. The Aggie head coach was impressed with the mature developments in Muhammad’s game over the course of the year.
Here’s what Fisher had to say on the young playmaker:
“You look at Moose Muhammad’s growth of maturity. Whereas he really stood out, especially over the last couple of weeks, well I think he has tremendous ball skills. He’s a strong bodied, sure handed — very sure handed guy — that makes contested catches and uses his body very well. Can stick his foot in the ground, can separate. And he has a tremendous future ahead of him. I mean, a tremendous future.”

He definitely has a tremendous future in College Station should he choose to finish out his career there. If Texas A&M wants to turn the ship around in a major way next fall, having a pair of 600-yard youngsters return as your core receivers is not a bad first step. Second step: How about finding a sustainable season-long option at quarterback to throw to these guys?
A&M had plenty of options last season, from experienced players within the program to transfers to heralded true freshmen — Jimbo Fisher had every type of passer at his disposal, yet just couldn’t find a consistent presence under center. Whether that be due to injuries or poor play or whatever. Next year, assuming Muhammad and Stewart come back, solving the mystery at quarterback is the top priority.
