Jimbo Fisher formally announces Texas A&M QB Conner Weigman is 'most likely' out for season
Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman was ruled likely out for the season after suffering a foot injury in last weekend’s game against Auburn.
Coach Jimbo Fisher confirmed that news on an SEC teleconference call on Wednesday, after team doctors found more troubling things on a closer look at the foot on Tuesday morning.
“Yeah he is and like I said in the press conference the other day we thought everything was fine,” Fisher said. “Was having some pain, we X-rayed and MRId it, it didn’t show anything. We thought it was just a normal sprain. He had some pain, he got a CAT scan and it showed some things in there that we’re going to have to fix and go in and get that done, so most likely he’ll be out.”
Weigman was injured when an Auburn defender came down on him awkwardly in the first half.
The play in question occurred midway through the second quarter, with Texas A&M backed up into its own territory.
Facing a second-and-14 from the 5-yard line, Weigman dropped back to pass and got immediate pressure off the edge. Auburn cornerback Jaylin Simpson got free and dove at Weigman, hitting him up around the thigh before sliding down his leg as he brought him down.
Weigman came up limping but stayed in to finish off the drive, which ended on an incompletion one play later. He quickly headed to the medical tent and then the locker room.

Prior to his exit, Conner Weigman was 8-of-14 passing for 70 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions in the game. He’d also run once for a loss of six yards.
Former LSU transfer Max Johnson will step in as the starter for Texas A&M after taking over for Weigman and closing out the win over the Tigers last weekend.
“We feel very confident in Max,” Fisher said. “Max came in and played great. Unfortunately we hate to lose Conner for our football team and for ourself. But like I said before, I think we have two starting quarterbacks and felt very good about that and we’ll have to move on. But that’s where we’re at.”
Johnson has plenty of experience, having 4,627 career passing yards with 42 touchdowns against just seven interceptions.
