Jimbo Fisher says recruiting is 'going well' despite Texas A&M's struggles

Nevermind that home loss to Appalachian State. Or that roundly criticized play call at the end of the Alabama game. And don’t mention that Texas A&M is 3-4 in football this year and is riding a three-game losing streak. Forget all of it. Relax, says Jimbo Fisher, because the recruiting is going just fine. The five-stars are on their way. Another top-five class may be on its way. Not quite the group that arrived in College Station this fall, but pretty close.

Yes, even with the rocky results on the field, Fisher remains steadfast in his recruiting efforts. That’s something he was asked about on the Jimbo Fisher Radio Show this week. How are he and his staff still able to close the deal on the recruiting front when the Aggies are a jumbled circus on the field so far this season?

Fisher admitted that the first half of the season certainly hasn’t helped. However, he’s confident Texas A&M is still landing the very top-tier guys, and will have plenty of them in attendance as the Aggies return home after a four-week hiatus and 0-3 record away from Kyle Field.

Here was everything Jimbo Fisher had to say about recruiting, when asked if the poor start to the year has affected that phase of the program.

“I mean, actually, it can be at times. But it also can be hey, you need me, you know what I’m saying. I need opportunities. I can see things there. But, you know, recruiting’s going well, numbers going well. Where we’re at, recruiting has gone very well. Have a bunch of them here this weekend, the commitments.

“We have, I say, really legit guys. I mean, they’re the real deal, guys. You go watch some of that film out there. These guys can really play. So I think I’m very happy with where it’s at. There’ll be a few more, but also won’t be huge. I don’t want to have 30, the number we had last year. That’s not that’s not one of the goals we’re having for this year. But it’s going well. And hat’s the nice thing about being at home, right. You get that moment. You’ve talked about this campus. You’ve talked about home recruiting. People there, I said…y’all had a month off. I was like having a summer vacation. I mean, you never get a month off all the recruiting. They work hard during the week.”

Fisher is fired up for the future of his program. Elite guys coming in by the dozen. Eventually, once these classes get a few years under their belt, it’s hard to imagine the Aggies won’t start contending more seriously.
