Suffice it to say Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher is quite impressed with Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe as the two get set to square off for the second straight year.

Fisher said he’s seen considerable growth and development out of the Alabama quarterback in the last year, which is impressive given how good he was in the first meeting.

“He was great. He was great, man,” Fisher said. “He made some tremendous runs and throws. The game’s slowing down for him. His scrambles where he throws the ball, and then once he tucks and goes, he’s dynamic. I don’t know if he’s (their) best runner, maybe the most explosive runner.”

In last year’s game, an intense, down-to-the-wire 24-20 Alabama win, Milroe went 12-of-19 passing for 111 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He also ran 17 times for 81 yards.

It’s Milroe’s ability to do damage with his legs that really makes him such a dynamic player.

“When Milroe hits space, I just, I mean, he’s maybe as good an athlete as they have on their team,” Fisher said. “And their corners are phenomenal, their receivers are phenomenal. But he’s in that top handful of guys if you’re arguing who’s the best athlete on their team. He’s dynamic.”

So far this season Milroe has been used in similar fashion, with Alabama opening him up more as a runner since the season opener.

For Texas A&M, the Aggies have been tested by some mobile quarterbacks already this season. Just recently they faced Auburn‘s duo of Payton Thorne and Robby Ashford, who both did some damage.

Of course, Jalen Milroe might prove to be a much bigger test than either of those two.

“We’ve had to play this way and play disciplined and understanding how to do it,” Fisher said. “This guy’s just more explosive. But they still presented a lot of problems, and there was quarterback runs, there was designed runs, there was I call it cheat runs where you hand it one way and the quarterback’s running the other. They’re designed in how they’re trying to divide the defense, so at least you’ve had a lot of preparation in those types of things.

“Now like I said, this guy’s a little bit more explosive than all those guys, but at least you’ve worked on it.”

Alabama and Texas A&M will meet at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday with a broadcast on CBS.
