Jimbo Fisher: Texas A&M can pull off upset
Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher believes in his team’s ability to pull off the upset against No.1 ranked Alabama. This Saturday, the Aggies will face their toughest opponent yet in SEC West rival, the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Texas A&M started off the season ranked in the top 10. But after back-to-back conference losses to Arkansas and Mississippi State, they find themselves unranked and in the cellar of the SEC West. Alabama on the other hand is on a mission to defend its national champion status. And so far they’ve looked the part. Their only scare of the season came in a thriller against the Florida Gators where they barely escaped with a two-point victory.
When asked about his team’s odds to upset the nation’s top team, he gave this forthright reply.
“If we practice well and play well, and we will. We have to go get a good plan, we have to practice it, we have to perfect it during the week, and then we have to execute it on Saturday. “
To Fisher it’s just another game
For this game, Fisher does not want his team going in overly excited. In order for them to pull off the upset, they need to treat this game the same as any other game.

“Every game to us as a player should be the same. Your opponents are faceless,” said Fisher. “It’s great to be in a big game and all that but you can’t look at that. You have to play the same no matter. What you do, how you do it and how you prepare. Each and every week has to be exactly the same. And, I know people don’t believe that and think about it. If you’re going to do it, do it well and consistently that’s what you got to do.”
If Alabama has shown any weaknesses this year it has been defending a quality rushing attack. Against the Gators, Alabama allowed 245 yards on 43 attempts and all four touchdowns scored by Florida were on the ground. Lucky for the Aggies, their rushing attack is the strength of the offense this season. Texas A&M is averaging 167.4 rushing yards per game and 5.2 yards per carry. Leading this rushing barrage is junior running back Isiah Spiller and sophomore Devon Achane. Both have two rushing touchdowns on the year and are averaging more than 6.5 yards per carry. If the Aggies plan around and execute in the run game, they have a chance of turning the college football world on its head by upsetting Alabama.
