Jimbo Fisher: 'The goal is to get bowl eligible'

The Texas A&M Aggies got a key win on Saturday against South Carolina. That pushed the Aggies to five wins on the season and should have Texas A&M in a good position to make a bowl game this season after missing one last year, which according to head coach Jimbo Fisher is the goal.
Fisher explained that with four games left, the first goal for the Aggies is to get bowl eligible and move on from that point.
“The goal is to get bowl eligible and then keep walking down the road,” Jimbo Fisher said. “We have four more games.”
In 2022, the Aggies were only able to win five games all season long. So, being at five wins with four games to go does seem like progress. Getting back to a bowl game would, on top of that, certainly be an improvement from that disappointing season and with four weeks left, it could end up being a much better season than the last one.
At the same time, winning Texas A&M’s remaining games is going to be tough. Ole Miss and LSU are two of the SEC West’s best teams and Mississippi State is trying to end its season on as high of a note as possible too. That leaves Abilene Christian, which at the very least, should be a win for Texas A&M.
Winning out would make the Aggies 9-3, tying the most wins Fisher has had in a single season at Texas A&M.

Jimbo Fisher has bigger long-term goals for the Texas A&M program than simply being bowl eligible, but at this point, it’s a step forward with the program in year six for him in College Station.
Jimbo Fisher details what he has liked so far out of Texas A&M
To this point in the season, Jimbo Fisher broke down what he’s liked out of this year’s Texas A&M team.
“I mean, listen, I like what we’re doing in the run game on defense. We’re playing the run really well. Getting after the quarterback, doing those things,” Fisher said.
“Offensively, like I said, we’re moving the ball really well in the first half. The last two games? It’s just been the second half. I mean it’s been the second half, not executing. Had things there but we’re just not executing. We’ve got to get better at that and hit those plays at critical moments. Because, in the first halves, we’re driving well, starting the games well, starting them fast.”
