Texas A&M legend Johnny Manziel paid close attention to current quarterback Marcel Reed and anticipates him being the guy this weekend.

Reed came in for starter Conner Weigman when the Aggies trailed LSU Saturday night. He led them to five straight scoring drives and a 38-23 win.

With it being Texas A&M’s seventh win in a row, the Aggies are a top 10 team, atop the SEC and firmly in the College Football Playoff mix. As it stands, Manziel said to stick with the hot hand.

“I think it would be really hard right now to go away from Marcel Reed and the energy and vibe that he brought to that team on Saturday,” Manziel said, via Action Network. “Right now, I would anticipate on Saturday Marcel Reed being the guy. But it definitely is nice having the option to be able to go back and forth.

“You obviously have a very capable guy in Conner Weigman as well, and you don’t want to get to the point where Texas A&M is too one-dimensional and having to rely on running the football too much.”

Reed came off the bench and went two-of-two passing for 70 yards and ran nine times for 62 yards and three touchdowns. In the same game, Weigman was six of 18 passing for 64 yards.

Marcel Reed the best option for Texas A&M?

Head coach Mike Elko was asked about this impending QB decision between Reed and Weigman this week. The Aggies travel to South Carolina this weekend for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff.

“Yeah, I think the possibility is there for a lot of things,” Elko told reporters on Monday. “I think we’re going to look at this week, figure out what we think the right thing is for us, what we think gives us the best chance to win moving forward. It’s probably too early in our minds to make that decision. Even if we did, we probably wouldn’t tell you right now anyway.

“But no, I think we just want to see how this week plays out, see what we think gives us the best shot to go into this environment and be successful, and then go forward from there.”

Whichever way Elko goes, Reed or Weigman, Texas A&M has to nail the decision if they want to keep the momentum going towards a potential SEC title and playoff berth.
