The Texas A&M Aggies came up just short against the No.1 team in the country, the Alabama Crimson Tide, on Saturday night. While some may tip their hat at the overall performance by the Aggies, one former Texas A&M star was having none of it. Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel took to social media after the game to air his grievances.

Manziel was not critical of the entire game in his statement, just the final play of the game.

“One of the worst calls I’ve ever seen in my life. You have one play to beat the #1 team in the country and that’s what we run,” wrote Manziel via Twitter.

On the Aggies’ last play of the game, they ran a quarterback rollout to the right side with essentially one target for Haynes King, who ran a short out close to the front pilon in the endzone. The pass was knocked away by the defender on the play ending Texas A&M’s chances for an upset and the game 24-20.

Aggies have a reason to have optimism

While a loss was not what the Aggies wanted, they certainly played much better than almost everyone expected them to. This defense is built for the future and the young playmakers on offense have very bright futures. There are plenty of issues the Aggies need to address, both immediately and long-term, but it is almost undeniable, the Aggies can compete on any given Saturday.

After it was announced King would be forced to be the starter in this game, there were some who thought it could be an ugly result. After some poor performances early in the season, leading to him getting benched, there was not much to be optimistic for. But, credit to King, he handled the offense fairly well tonight, throwing for 253 yards and two touchdowns. He did have some rocky moments throughout the game, including a costly interception, but he played a cleaner game than expected.
