There are a few players in college football history who made such a profound impact early on in their collegiate careers as former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel did. Manziel was electric must-see TV during his stint with the Aggies, leading them to an 11-2 record in 2012, the program’s first year in the SEC, on his way to capturing the Heisman Trophy as a freshman.

The former Texas A&M signal-caller recently was a guest on NFL legend Shannon Sharpe‘s podcast, Club Shay Shay. Throughout the interview, the duo would break down a multitude of stories surrounding the rise and fall of Manziel from his collegiate career to his time in the NFL. However, during the interview, one question Sharpe posed to the former first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in the 2014 NFL Draft led him to praise another highly-polarizing individual currently making waves throughout the college football landscape: Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders.

During the interview, Manziel was asked if he would play for Sanders if he were a recruit in today’s college football landscape. And without skipping a beat, the former Aggie delivered this response.

“Without a doubt,” said Manziel. “Me and him, being Texas guys, we’ve had a great relationship for years. And I think, looking back on our relationship now, he knew something special in me to the point where he interjected in my life at times or sent me a message or really showed love that he didn’t have to do. If I was a college kid looking now, I would say; Texas A&M is the best school in the country. That’s a given. But number two, I would play for a man, for a guy who’s a leader of men, a guy who carries himself the way that Prime does.”

Manziel has a strong affinity for Sanders, which appears to stem from the Dallas Cowboys legend reaching out to the former Aggies quarterback on several occasions.

While his initial response was praised enough, highlighting how he views Sanders as a head coach, Manziel provided a more real-world approach and framed the second part of his response around what he would do as a parent of a current college football recruit.

“Looking at it from a different perspective, if I was a father and my son was looking to go to play for a coach, I would absolutely, without a doubt, unequivocally send him to Coach Prime,” he said.

If Manziel was indeed a recruit heading to the Colorado Buffaloes to join Sanders, that potentially would be the most intriguing and exciting quarterback head coach combo in college football to date. However, he would likely have to wait at least another season to see the field as Coach Prime is still not done developing his current quarterback, his son, Shedeur Sanders, who plans on turning into the next Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback hailing from the state of Texas
