Kendall Rogers previews what Gavin Kash will bring to Texas A&M lineup
It’s a new era for Texas A&M Aggies baseball with Michael Earley taking over as the head coach. With that, he’s also made several changes, including bringing in some key transfers like Gavin Kash from the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Now, with the season rapidly approaching, Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball shared what he expects Kash to bring to the Texas A&M lineup.
“I think Gavin has, arguably, the most interesting career I’ve ever seen in my life,” Kendall Rogers said. “Apparently, he’s on the rivalry tour because he started at Texas, he went to Texas Tech, he’s at A&M. I joked with somebody at the ABCA last week that maybe he’ll just get another year and go to TCU or something, but he’s had certainly an interesting path. But, you know, he was the Big 12 Player of the Year two years ago at Texas Tech. Obviously, massive power.”
Last season, Kash had a .300 batting average and a .365 OBP for a .926 OPS. He hit 15 home runs with 51 RBIs. That came after he had hit .327 with a .397 OBP and a 1.089 OPS to go along with 26 home runs and 84 RBIs in 2023. The big difference from one season to the next was his control of the strike zone. In 2023, he struck out 57 times and walked 34 times. Then, in 2024, he struck out 63 times while only walking 23 times.
“Last year, I say his season didn’t go that great, the guy [hit a lot of] doubles and home runs and a lot of RBIs, but the swing and miss was up for him last year. I think when you look at what he did in the fall,” Rogers said. “I didn’t see that. Granted, it was one scrimmage, but honestly, I thought Gavin Kash was the best hitter I saw in the scrimmage I saw against UH. He was — the zone awareness is really good. He pounded the baseball. He just looked locked in.”

Coming into the season D1Baseball has Texas A&M ranked as the top team in the country. That’s largely on the back of what the lineup looks like with a player like Kash in it.
“Again, we liked all the returning guys but I’ll tell you what, if Gavin Kash returns to who he was two years ago, you’re talking about a lineup that does not have a weak link. So, that to me is kind of an x-factor because I kind of assume he’s gonna be a guy that’s gonna hit .285 like last year with a lot of home runs but a lot of strikeouts, but if he can cut the strikeouts down, he’s as good as anybody on that team outside of maybe Jace LaViolette.”
Texas A&M begins its season on February 14th against Elon. That will be Aggies fans’ first chance to see Gavin Kash in a Texas A&M uniform.
