Kenyon Green on how Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M prepared him for NFL
The Houston Texans couldn’t be more excited to land a First-Team All-American in the form of Kenyon Green with the 15th overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft. In his introductory press conference, Green credited his time with Texas A&M under Jimbo Fisher as a major contributing factor to his collegiate success.
“Seeing all the hard work [the Texas A&M coaching staff] put into me all those years, seeing the tears of joy [from the coaches], just the excitement — I was happy,” Green said about his coaches reactions to him getting drafted in the first round.
It wasn’t just the work the Texas A&M coaches put into him. Green was a top-rated recruit coming out of high school as well. He was the top interior offensive lineman in the country in the Class of 2019 and No. 1 in his home state of Texas. He was also a five-star prospect and the No. 9 overall prospect in the country, according to the On3 Consensus.
Fisher, obviously, had nothing but great things to say about his former All-American, pointing to his size and strength as something coaches can’t teach.
“A lot of guys block you, but he can move the big guys and he’s athletic enough to block the skill guys and that’s a rare combination,” Fisher said. “And plus he has extra arm length and big hands — when he gets his hands on you, you may beat him and then all of a sudden he gets that last push to protect and things.

“All the intangibles you talk about — character, toughness, team, winning, sacrifice, play banged up, play bruised up — all of the things. Intelligence. And you combine that with great athletic ability, you have a great player. I mean this, I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t have an unbelievable career in pro football. I think the sky’s the limit for him.”
While Green begins what Fisher believes will be a stellar pro career, the former Aggie All-American should sign a four-year with the Houston Texans worth $15.9 million after being selected 15th overall, according to Spotrac. The deal would also include an $8.7 million signing bonus and a fifth-year team option, as all first-round picks do.The deal is also fully guaranteed and includes a 2022 cap hit of just $2.9 million.
With experience across the offensive line throughout his time in College Station, Green is expected to play guard for the Texans. Playing every position except for center for the Aggies last season, Green won the team’s Offensive MVP award at the end of the season for his versatility.
