Max Johnson goes in-depth into the dynamic between Jimbo Fisher, Bobby Petrino
Texas A&M Aggies quarterback Max Johnson recently explained the relationship dynamic between head coach Jimbo Fisher and offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino.
This comes as a lot of attention has been paid to the two coaches, both known for their larger-than-life personalities, and the chance that those personalities clash. In particular, there are a lot of people wondering how the offense will run with both coaches working together.
“I think Coach Petrino, Coach Fisher, both have a great relationship with each other,” Max Johnson said. “But this offseason we’ve mainly met with Coach Petrino in all the meetings and that’s pretty much who we’ve been learning from. He’s been in every single meeting. He’s been there, you know, talking to us on the side at workouts, during the summer, and he’s been there teaching us the whole system.
For Bobby Fisher, there is a simple way to blend his personality with Jimbo Fisher’s.
“Hard work and that’s what’s been fun about it. [Jimbo Fisher] will come up early in the morning, and we get in the meeting room and grind and watch tape. And, you know, I think we watched some tape from 1984 LSU to see what we did there,” Petrino said.
“We’ve got a great staff. So we’re putting the Texas A&M Aggie offense together. The input from everybody, how do we make it better? What do we have to do? So we’re building the playbook, and it really has been enjoyable.”

Max Johnson on his relationship with Bobby Petrino
One thing that’s been important to Max Johnson is his own relationship with Bobby Petrino. In particular, he’s happy about the accountability that Petrino has brought to the Aggies offense.
“I love working with Coach Petrino. I think he’s done a great job of bringing accountability to all of our players on offense. A lot of people are excited to learn from him, and kind of pick his brain. He’s done a great job of kind of controlling the offense, and kind of figuring out who the players are, how he should coach them differently from each player. I think it’s been a great experience, a great fall camp so far,” Johnson said.
“I think just consistency, understanding the offense, and making great decisions. Knowing when to take that shot and, also, when to check it down. I think being able to lead, lead others in a great way, make others around me better. Coach Petrino will make that decision. Or Coach Fisher. But that’s what I’ve been working on.”
