Report: Texas A&M to start Max Johnson against Miami
Texas A&M‘s season has not gotten off to a fast start, especially on the offensive end. Haynes King won the quarterback competition coming out of fall camp but has yet to impress head coach Jimbo Fisher. A switch will now be made, with Fisher deciding to have a new quarterback in Saturday’s game against Miami.
According to Grant Gaspard of the Battalion, Max Johnson will be the starter for Texas A&M this weekend. He entered the program this offseason from the transfer portal, playing for LSU last season. In fact, the last time he saw game action came in a win over the Aggies. Now, he will be on their side, trying to get the season back on track.

“Source confirms Max Johnson has been moved up to QB1 for @AggieFootball , looking to carry the Aggies to their second win against No. 16 Miami,” the newspaper’s Twitter account said.
Johnson won the starting quarterback job for LSU last season, playing in 12 games. He completed just over 60% of his throws for 2,815 yards, 27 touchdowns, and six touchdowns. With all of the impressive skill position players on the field for Texas A&M, Johnson needs to find a way to effectively distribute the ball.

In the two starts King had, the offense was not effective for the entire game. In the season opener against Sam Houston State, the Aggies took some time to get rolling. In the Appalachian State loss, Texas A&M only had 180 total yards and just 83 from King.
A switch was clearly needed from Fisher. After a week of practicing and observing the two, Johnson was the decision. He will at least get the first snaps of the game and an opportunity to impress in College Station.
True freshman Conner Weigman is still on the bench for Fisher as well. The No. 4 overall quarterback prospect in the 2022 recruiting class, he could still be an option for Texas A&M as the season progresses. But for Saturday, Johnson will be the guy.
