Meet the Commits: Overview of Texas A&M's 2023 Recruiting Class
The Texas A&M Aggies’ 2023 football recruiting class has four pledges and is currently ranked as the No. 7 haul in the country. We’ve provided background info on each commit below (in chronological order from the newest pledge to the oldest) and will update as the cycle continues.
Converse (Tex.) Judson four-star defensive lineman Johnny Bowens
Height:6-foot-2
Weight: 254lbs
2021 Stats: 36 tackles, ten tackles for loss, six sacks, four passes deflected and two forced fumbles.
The most recent addition to the Aggies’ 2023 class, four-star defensive lineman Johnny Bowens committed on Christmas Day. Bowens is a disruptive defensive lineman with an excellent makeup and frame. The four-star committed to Texas A&M over eight other offers, and recently added LSU to his list of offers. Bowens was a Texas 27-6A first-team all-district selection at defensive end as a junior for Converse (Tex.) Judson, which previously produced former Aggie star defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal. Bowens ranks as the No. 240 prospect and No. 37 defensive lineman nationally in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Spring Branch (Tex.) Smithson Valley three-star offensive tackle Colton Thomasson
Height: 6-foot-8
Weight: 347lbs
The massive offensive lineman from Spring Branch (Tex.) Smithson Valley emerged as a name to know early in his high school career, but after a near-100lb weight loss, saw his recruitment take off ahead of his junior season. Thomasson committed to the Aggies in July 2021, a little over a month after landing an offer. As a junior, Thomasson was a Texas 27-6A unanimous first-team all-district selection as a junior and a Class 6A first-team all-state selection by the Texas Sportswriters Association. The three-star also throws shot put and discuss and posted a 43-0.75 shot put and a 142-9 discus as a sophomore. Thomasson ranks as the No. 441 prospect and No. 33 interior offensive lineman in the On3 Consensus, though he could play as an offensive tackle at the next level as well.

Zachary (La.) four-star quarterback Eli Holstein
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 212lbs
2021 Stats: Completed 204-313 pass attempts for 3,228 yards, 30 touchdowns and six interceptions. Added 523 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on 66 rush attempts.
Expected to be the lone quarterback the Aggies take in the 2023 class, Eli Holstein is coming off a junior season in which he led Zachary to an undefeated state championship, throwing for over 3,000 yards and 30 touchdowns along the way. The four-star committed to Texas A&M in June 2021, and quickly got to work as a peer recruiter, helping land the aforementioned Thomasson a month later. Holstein ranks right outside the top 100 in the On3 Consensus, as the No. 101 prospect and No. 9 quarterback. He committed to the Aggies over 20 other offers.
Wylie (Tex.) East four-star defensive lineman Anthony James
Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 239lbs
2021 Stats: 24 tackles, two sacks, four tackles for loss, one fumble recovery.
The first to join Texas A&M’s 2023 class, James has been committed to the Aggies for over a year, announcing his pledge back in February 2021. The four-star remains locked in to his commitment, but continues to hear from schools like Texas, Michigan and Miami. James ranks as the No. 153 prospect and No. 22 defensive lineman nationally in the On3 Consensus. He’s rated as a three-star prospect in the On300 as the No. 42 defensive lineman in the country.
