On Sunday, Texas A&M baseball officially named Michael Earley the program’s next head coach. In an interview with TexAgs, Earley revealed his plans for the program.

“I have been a part of this program and have seen what it takes to be successful. Texas A&M baseball has never been in a better spot,” Earley said. “The momentum we have, I want to keep that going. I have had a front-row seat. The players were a big part of it.

“There will be things I do differently. The structure we had was really good. The culture we had was really good. I know I was a part of that, and I expect to keep it the exact same and always try to make it better. It’s been crazy.”

Texas A&M certainly doesn’t lack momentum. In June, the program was one win away from winning its first-ever national title. However, head coach Jim Schlossnagle stunned Aggies fans when he announced he was leaving Texas A&M to accept an offer to take over at Texas.

Instantly, Texas A&M’s future was in flux. The Aggies wasted no time in their coaching search, eventually promoting Earley, who served as the team’s hitting coach for the past three seasons. Now, the Aggies are back on track.

With the help of Earley, Texas A&M set program records for home runs in 2024 with 136 and walks with a nation-leading 422. In Earley’s three seasons with the program, the Aggies have belted 306 homers, logged 704 extra-base hits and drawn 1,178 walks.

More importantly, several of the players who entered the transfer portal following Schlossnagle’s decision have already decided to return to Texas A&M next season. Michael Earley is ecstatic to continue to build the program.

“My family and I couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity,” Earley said. “Thank you, General Welsh and Trev Alberts for putting your trust in me. Being a part of this University and this program are a dream come true. I will not let you down. See you in Omaha!”

Texas A&M athletic director Trev Alberts couldn’t be happier with the hire.

“Michael is a very talented coach and recruiter, but what stood out to me was his character and the relationships he has built with his current and former players,” Alberts said. “During our interview process he was really impressive.

“It helps that he knows our current roster, which finished second in the country, and he also knows Aggieland and the 12th Man. I am excited about the future of Aggie baseball. Please help me welcome home Michael and his family back to Aggieland.”
