Mike Elko: Conner Weigman is 'healthy', 'comfortable' in offense
After short stints and moments over his first two seasons at Texas A&M, QB Conner Weigman could be set up for a big year this fall in College Station.
Mike Elko spoke about Weigman’s position through two weeks of fall camp during a media day on Saturday. First and foremost, he said the Aggies’ quarterback is still clear medically heading into the season.
“Yeah, I mean, Conner is healthy, which is great for him,” Elko began.
Just as importantly, though, Weigman has been taking well to the new offensive approach under OC Collin Klein. It has led to even more improvement and development for him before his sophomore year.
“I think he’s really comfortable in the system now,” said Elko. “I think he’s really got a chance to go out there and operate at a really high level. So I think he has just continued to get better and better every time he goes out there.”
Weigman appeared in nine games, with eight of those being starts, through his pair of seasons in Aggieland. He was a backup as a freshman before injuries got him starting for the final four games and then opened last season as the starter before a season-ending injury to his foot.

In those outings, Weigman has shown flashes by completing 61.8% of his throws for 1,875 yards, 16 touchdowns, and just two interceptions. Through his four games as a starting redshirt last year, which Texas A&M won three of, he completed 68.9% of his passes for eight scores and both picks while also rushing for two more touchdowns.
Still, to this point, the small sample size has left many wanting to see the full product of Weigman.
If he can play a full season, Weigman looks to be a quarterback that could be among the best in the country. That’s why expectations are as high for them as they are, especially within their own building at Texas A&M.
“We’re real excited with who he is, what he’s capable of,” said Elko. “He’s such a winner, he’s such a competitor.
“Him leading us into Notre Dame? We’re really excited about that.”
