Mike Elko denies 'fast talking politician' comments were directed at Jimbo Fisher
Texas A&M coach Mike Elko made some comments that included the phrase “fast talking politician” after the Aggies’ win over LSU Saturday.
Many assumed Elko referred to former coach Jimbo Fisher. And if you’ve heard Fisher speak, the national champion head coach can talk a mile a minute.
But, Elko denied that the phrase referred to Fisher.
“Texas A&M coach Mike Elko said his ‘fast-talking politician’ et al comment was not aimed at former A&M coach Jimbo Fisher: ‘I have nothing but respect for Coach Fisher,'” Brent Zwerneman wrote on Twitter.
Here were Elko’s full comments:
“This is a real program. It is not fake. It is not a politician running this program, talking fast and BS’ing everybody.”
Heck, On3’s Andy Staples had a great theory Elko was channeling former Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight. He broke it down HERE.
Those comments practically took away from the game at hand. Texas A&M beat LSU 38-23 after trailing 17-7 at one point. Marcel Reed subbed in from Conner Weigman at QB and took over.
His spark in the second half saw Texas A&M outscore the Tigers 31-6 after the previously mentioned punt.

“Then obviously, you know, unbelievable credit to Marcel Reed,” Elko said. “You know, to be ready to go tonight. We just felt like things weren’t moving the way we wanted to. It certainly wasn’t Conner’s fault, there weren’t a lot of open windows.
“We couldn’t get the passing game unglued at all. We couldn’t call it right, I couldn’t get them to run it right, we couldn’t get open. It was just a litany of problems. Conner didn’t throw it well at times. It was a litany of issues. And we just felt like we needed a spark. And we pulled the trigger and went with Marcel, and what a spark he gave us.”
Reed led Texas A&M on five straight scoring drives (four touchdowns and one field goal) to spark the win over the Tigers.
Reed finished the game just two of two passing for 70 yards but ran nine times for 62 yards and three touchdowns.
