Paul Finebaum is examining the type of coach that could fit Texas A&M following the Aggies’ decision to fire Jimbo Fisher.

The SEC Network analyst joined McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning earlier this week. During his appearance, he built-out the perfect coach for the Aggies, believing Texas A&M needs to look at someone who’s “organized,” and go the “CEO” route moving forward.

“I think someone who is really organized,” responded Finebaum, asked what type of coach could lead Texas A&M into their next era. “Which we all know Jimbo Fisher wasn’t at times. He may have been hyper-fixated on the way he thought it could be done, but I think they need a real CEO out there, and someone who has done this before.

“I’m always hesitant when I see the names pop out. Those names are being floated by agents. Some are legit, some are probably not. I can’t say I know — I don’t have any insight into what [Ross] Bjork and his people are thinking.”

Regardless, Finebaum believes it was the right move for Texas A&M to move on from Fisher, despite the money they’re now on the hook for moving forward.

“I believe it was the only move. The program was digressing,” Finebaum added. “[They were] heading toward a 7-5 season — which is unacceptable. You can mitigate it by talking about the close games against really good teams but quite frankly, at that price tag, it just doesn’t make any difference.

“If you’re not in contention for something, then it’s time to make a change and I appreciate and applaud what Ross [Bjork] did. I think he set the right tone last night and he explained the money and yeah, it’s a big deal but it’s not my money, it’s not your money — it’s their money and they feel pretty comfortable that they have it and it’s worth paying for.”

Alas, the writing on the wall for Fisher’s departure began last season when Texas A&M was upset at home against Appalachian State 17-14. Despite being ranked as high as No. 6 in the preseason poll just two weeks before the loss — the Aggies would finish the season 5-7 only two years removed from a near CFP berth.

Despite improving his team from last season to deliver a 6-4 record through 10 games — including a 51-10 win over Mississippi State the day before he was fired — it is still way below the standard that Texas A&M expected from Fisher when they hired him in 2018.

Who will take over the Aggies? Paul Finebaum and the rest of the college football world will be keeping a close eye on how it shakes out, as it’ll surely be one of the biggest storylines over the next couple of weeks.
