The Texas A&M Aggies‘ season outlook took a severe plunge following Saturday’s upset loss to Appalachian State. ESPN host and analyst Paul Finebaum went so far as to say that head coach Jimbo Fisher is now on the hot seat in College Station.
“I would say they are at DEFCON 3 right now, trending toward DEFCON 1,” Finebaum said on McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning. “I mean, this is a really serious situation. A&M was at home against App State. That’s inexcusable, nothing against App State, they’re a good team, but they have no business playing with A&M.”
Finebaum continued to say that he hasn’t quite bought into Jimbo Fisher’s worst critics, however, he’s starting to fail in his arguments against them.

“You have to start thinking that this thing is going in the wrong direction,” Finebaum said. “I’m not ready to go there yet, because I’ve wanted to believe in him. One thing I do believe, is he’s got the wrong quarterback playing. When he makes that change, if he makes it, can the season be salvaged?”
The SEC talking head put Fisher on the hot seat, but not in the traditional way.
“This was not supposed to be the year that Jimbo Fisher was on the hot seat, but he’s on the hot seat,” Finebaum said. “Not in the conventional sense, the University saying they’re going to buy you out… but he’s on the hot seat from a perceptive standpoint. A lot of people in the country think he’s a complete fraud as an elite coach.”
Despite the loss, Fisher and the Aggies remain in the top 25 of both the AP and coaches’ poll going into Week 3. On Saturday, Texas A&M hosts No. 13 Miami at home for a 9 p.m. kickoff. Following the shocking loss, nothing is off the table for Fisher, including a shakeup at quarterback.
Fisher admits he is ‘possibly’ considering quarterback change
The Texas A&M Aggies might be facing a quarterback change in the future, according to Jimbo Fisher’s comments after the game on Saturday.

Aggies quarterback Haynes King struggled throughout the game, finishing with just 97 yards passing in the loss. King struggled early with a fumble that led to the first Appalachian State score of the game, and never found a rhythm on offense.
The brutal outing and outcome of the game for Texas A&M’s College Football Playoff chances did not go unnoticed by Fisher, who admitted after the game that he will consider his options at quarterback.
“Asked if he’ll consider giving another quarterback a chance, Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher says ‘Possibly. We’ll evaluate everything,’” shared The Athletic‘s Sam Khan Jr.
Fisher went on to answer whether or not the Aggies considered benching King during the game before losing.
“We were, but we never had the ball. If we had got more possessions, maybe so,” said Fisher via TexAgs.
