Pitching coach Max Weiner feels he left MLB for the 'best job in college baseball' at Texas A&M
New Texas A&M pitching coach Max Weiner had a great job the past four-plus seasons as the pitching coordinator for the Seattle Mariners. It takes a lot to get someone to leave a job like that.
For Weiner, he saw that opportunity with the Aggies.
“I think when you look around, you have to be sensitive to the culture, to the tradition and being able to honor these principles, whether it’s through the uniforms, whether it’s through how coach Jim is so locked in on understanding what the Corps principle values are,” Weiner said during his introductory press conference. “These are the things that matter most. I felt like I was leaving what I thought was the best job in professional baseball to come to the best job in college baseball. In order to do that, you need to understand the foundational principles that this program is built upon. I think that we understand what Coach Jim’s principles are, but how that layers into A&M was just overwhelmingly special.”
Weiner has had a meteoric rise as a coach, earning honors this season as one of Forbes Magazine’s “30 Under 30 2023” for sports.
He graduated from FIU in 2017 after playing two years of college ball at Lake Sumter State College. While in college he founded The Arm Farm, which is a pitching development program for young players that also includes charity options for underfunded teams.

His first pro job was as the minor league pitching coordinator for Cleveland before getting hired by Seattle. With the Mariners, he played a key role in the organization’s rise up the team prospect rankings and developing multiple young pitchers.
Texas A&M head coach Jim Schlossnagle said he is excited to continue building his relationship with Weiner.
“Just super exciting time you know, since we finished playing at Stanford, it’s been pretty unsettled around here, which none of us liked, but that’s part of transition, when somebody makes the decision to go somewhere else. And then certainly, you know, this time of the year your roster is in a lot of transition, trying to figure out what that is relative to the Major League (Baseball) Draft, the transfer portal, what your own current players want to do,” Schlossnagle said. “So yeah, we feel good about the last you know, 48 hours, of getting Coach Max on board.”
