Max Johnson injured his hand in the midst of Texas A&M‘s loss to Mississippi State and was not able to return. Now, the biggest game of the season is not on the schedule for the Aggies, traveling to Tuscaloosa for a game against Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

During his Monday press conference, head coach Jimbo Fisher spoke on Johnson but was not able to give much of an update. He said the quarterback will be evaluated throughout the week and “day-to-day” heading into the Alabama matchup.

“No,” Fisher said when asked if there was an update. “We’ll go day-to-day. Just banged his hand. We’ll evaluate him as we go, day-to-day.”

Johnson has started the last three games for Texas A&M, taking over after Haynes King struggled in the first two matchups of the year. He has won two important games for Fisher, taking down Miami and Arkansas. However, the loss against Mississippi State was a frustrating one on offense, especially in the red zone.

King stepped back into his role after Johnson left the game but threw two interceptions. Fisher also has true freshman Conner Weigman available as well, if wanted. There could be another important quarterback decision coming for the Texas A&M head coach.

Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher provides update on Jaylon Jones

Texas A&M is preparing to take on No. 1 Alabama in a game many had considered the probable game of the year entering the 2022 season. Whether the Aggies will have one of their top defenders is a bit up in the air following cornerback Jaylon Jones‘ injury against Mississippi State over the weekend.

Head coach Jimbo Fisher provided a brief injury update on Monday.

“Seems to be doing fine,” Fisher said. “Seems to be doing really fine. Yeah, he’ll be day to day.”

Jones exited a 42-24 loss at Mississippi State in the first quarter after being shaken up. He was tended to on the field for a few minutes before walking into the team’s injury tent.

He did not return.

“I’m going to say this: It doesn’t help when you lose one of your best, best players or the best, tremendous corner you have,” Fisher said. “It doesn’t help in that. But again, that’s football and that happens. You have plans for that and you have contingencies and you have other players you have to play and they’re good players.”
