Report: Texas A&M DL Nic Scourton opting out of Las Vegas Bowl
Texas A&M will apparently be down one of their best players during their bowl game later this month.
Per sources speaking to CBS Sports, Nic Scourton will opt out of playing against USC in the Las Vegas Bowl. This comes with him being projected as one of the top selections for the 2025 NFL Draft come the spring.
“Texas A&M star defensive lineman Nic Scourton is set to opt out of the Aggies’ Las Vegas Bowl matchup vs. USC, sources tell @CBSSports,” CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz tweeted on Friday.
Scourton transferred to College Station for this season as one of the top additions in the portal last offseason. He was the No. 10 overall transfer and the No. 1 defensive end available, per On3’s 2024 Top Transfer Portal Players, after a pair of seasons at Purdue. While with the Boilermakers, he had 72 tackles, a dozen sacks, and a pair of forced fumbles, including 50 tackles, 10 sacks, three deflections, and a forced fumble as a sophomore before transferring to Aggieland.

Scourton has since had a similar impact on the defense this season for A&M. The junior pass-rusher had 37 tackles, five sacks, a pair of deflections, and a forced fumble on a Top-30 defense for Aggies. That was good for a team lead in sacks while being sixth in tackles on the fall. It also earned him a slot on the All-SEC First Team as well as a spot on the Second Team as a Walter Camp All-American this week.
With that, Scourton could have been useful against the Trojans on December 27th inside Allegiant Stadium. Southern Cal has an offensive line that only allowed 14 sacks this season on Miller Moss and Jayden Maiava at just 1.17 per game.
Instead, Scourton will be unavailable for the bowl for Texas A&M along with any other opt-outs or transfers following the end of their regular season.
