Rylan Griffen commits to Texas A&M from NCAA Transfer Portal

Rylan Griffen played his first two collegiate seasons in the Southeastern Conference. He’ll now, after a year away in the Big 12, be coming back into the SEC.
Griffin has committed to Texas A&M from the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. That comes per On3’s Joe Tipton on Friday evening.
Griffen has spent over a month available in the transfer portal. In that recruitment, the Aggies landed him over two other teams in the league like Alabama and Kentucky previously while he also considered Miami in the ACC.
Griffen just finished his third season in total with a pair at Alabama before this past one at Kansas. He has appeared in 106 games, half of those being starts with 53, and averaged 7.8 points (40.5% FG, 34.9% 3PT on 1.5 makes), 2.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. He had a career-best season for the Crimson Tide, in a year in which they made the Final Four, with stats of 11.2 points (45.4% FG, 39.2% 3PT on 2.1 makes), 3.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists. However, following his transfer last offseason to Lawrence, Griffen saw those numbers drop to 6.3 points (37.2% FG, 33.6% 3PT on 1.2 makes), 2.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists.
A Dallas native, Griffin played his high school basketball at Richardson. He was the No. 44 overall recruit there as a four-star in the 2022 cycle. He also rated in the top-five at shooting guard and for players out of the state in that class. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Now, in his second transfer in as many years, Griffin was one of the top two-guards still uncommitted per the latest update to On3’s Industry Ranking of 2025’s Top Transfer Portal Players. He rated at No. 116 overall and as a Top-30 SG, which had him at No. 30 overall and as the No. 8 SG among the best available still.
Griffin was one of six transfers this offseason, five of which just finished their one and only seasons in the program, from The ‘Phog. He’s now one of two of those to commit to come to College Station along with Zach Clemence. AJ Storr (Ole Miss) will also be in the SEC, David Coit (Maryland) is committed too, and then Zeke Mayo and Rakease Passmore remain in the portal.
Texas A&M has now added their latest transfer ahead of the program’s debut season under Bucky McMillan. Griffen and Clemence will be coming to Aggieland alongside Federiko Federiko (Texas Tech), Mackenzie Mgbako (Indiana), Marcus Hill (NC State), Jamie Vinson (Texas), Josh Holloway (Samford), and Jacari Lane (North Alabama). This also comes a few hours after the latest decommitment of Duke Miles. That’s part of a full roster overhaul for the Aggies with eight seniors leaving and seven players transferring, four of those to Maryland, following their final season under Buzz Williams.
